Goulbourn Hornets Minor Midget Girls Team OBA Provincials – April 28-30, 2017 – Whitby, ON
The Goulbourn Hornets Minor Midget Girls (U15) team proudly show off their silver medals after an impressive weekend at the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) Provincial Cup from April 28th-30th in Whitby, Ontario.
The girls went head-to-head against 4 southern Ontario teams. Starting Friday night, the girls took on Tillsonburg in an exciting game that came down to a one-basket, 2 point win 34-32. Early Saturday morning, with spirits high, the girls faced off against Dundas. The Hornets set the pace and held control for the duration ending in a 52 – 36 win. Saturday afternoon saw an intense competition against the Toronto Lords. Parents were on their feet for a nail-biting, one point victory, 32-31. This placed the Hornets first in their pool and headed to the semi-finals on Sunday morning. Energized by their 3 game win, and knowing that the next win would earn them a spot in the gold medal game, the girls aggressively took on Collingwood, the top-seeded team in the division. Prepared for a tough game, they hit the court with velocity and crushed Collingwood in a 38-14 victory. Advancing to the gold medal game, the girls then faced powerful competition against Peterborough. Each period ended with a tight score, it was anybody’s game. In the end, Peterborough edged ahead and won by 5 points, with a final score of 44 – 39.
Proud parents, coaches and spectators congratulated the girls on their outstanding achievements and the first-class sportsmanship they demonstrated throughout the weekend. Go Hornets!
